Osteopathy is a manual therapy medicine founded by an American physician, Andrew Taylor Still, in 1874. Still unsatisfied by the results and practice of conventional allopathic medicine, Andrew Taylor was keen to find a different approach to treat patients. From that moment, osteopathy started to spread out among the United States and the rest of the world.

The first school in the United Kingdom was founded in 1914 by John Martin Littlejohn.

Osteopathy uses several approaches such as Structural osteopathy, Craniosacral therapy, Visceral osteopathy and Paediatric osteopathy. All of them are quite different from each other, with many techniques addressed to different specific issues.

Osteopathic philosophy is based on the concept that the body possesses an inner healing ability, and it can restore its balance, therefore the role of an osteopath is to guide the patient’s body towards a healthy direction to create suitable conditions for the body to heal itself.

Osteopathy addresses pathologies and disturbances of the musculoskeletal system such as low back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, Muscular pain, and so on.

Osteopathy is a treatment suitable for all ages, newborns, adults, elderly people; everybody can benefit from it.

Structural Osteopathy

STRUCTURAL OSTEOPATHY

Structural Osteopathy

Structural osteopathy is the branch of osteopathy that involves several techniques to restore the musculoskeletal system’s functionality. The majority of the techniques are directly performed on the joints or muscles.

VISCERAL OSTEOPATHY

Visceral Osteopathy

Visceral Osteopathy is the branch of osteopathy that deals with the internal organs such as the liver, the stomach, the bowel, respiratory tract…

Internal organs can refer to pain around our bodies: that’s why people can experience back pain when they are constipated! The same applies to period pain, which can cause back pain too. That’s why it is extremely important to examine and treat organs (indirectly).

The treat is very gentle, usually involving touching and gently massaging the belly area to get to the affected area. This will help to release any restrictions or adhesions.

This type of treatment is suitable for patients from the elderly to adults.

CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY

Cranial Osteopathy

Believe it or not, the bones that make up the skull have very small and imperceptible movements to the naked eye.

This is a reflection of the constant movements of the cerebral spinal fluid, which surrounds and protects the brain and the spinal cord.

Your osteopaths will use very gentle techniques to assess and treat the involuntary mechanism described above through the movements of the cranial bones.

This type of treatment is suitable for all types of patients from adult to elderly, and is commonly used for treating newborns, toddlers and babies as well.

PRE-POST NATAL OSTEOPATHY

Pre-post natal Osteopathy

A woman’s body changes during pregnancy; those changes include the softening of ligaments, weight increase and changes in posture, which can lead to additional pressure on joints in various parts of the body, including the spine or pelvis. Osteopathy may help relieve the stresses and strains on your body during this time and even after birth.
